My new baby. The first truly new thing I've ever purchased besides my wife's ring. I'm pretty fucking excited.

Did you get the manual or the DSG?

Manual; it's the wolfsburg edition as well. I keep looking for errands to run for work so I can drive it again! I just picked it up last night, haha.

Mmmmm...3m tape and plaid, a deadly combination.
PS. Are you in NOVA?

Sweet ride! I can't decide whether to stick with 3 doors or go to 5 when I move up to the Mk7 GTI...

Thanks!
Five doors all the way! I'm planning on using this as a family car once we have kids in a while, and also I think having four doors gives a better line on the b-pillar.

Right? So hot, haha. My wife's even more excited than I am.
I am; I live just outside Leesburg, and work in Round Hill. I am hoping to make it to the falls church C&C at some point soon. I assume you're in the area as well?

Nah, I'm a DMV refugee. I left for warmer climes and now reside in Disneyworld (a.k.a. Orlando). Just curious because I saw the plates.

Hah, okay. My parents live just north of Tampa; I was actually down there last week on vacation. It's nice, but I like it up here - I'm not super into the heat.

Well keep your new VW in the shade because the headliner is prone to undo itself in the heat and humidity. I'm pretty sure they fixed the finish on the new radio though (mine is still peeling on my 2006 Jetta). All in all, the car was meant for the cooler climates of Bavaria and not the ball sack climate of Florida.

Hah, good to know. My place up here in NOVA has pretty good shade - I do really wish I had a garage though.

I'd like to keep my next car for a while, and although a family is way in the future, the extra doors would have been nice in the handful of times I had passengers in the back. Definitely have to compare them when the time comes!

Gorgeous! Have fun with it. My wife has a 5-door Mk5 that we have owned since new. We absolutely love the car. I think it is the perfect combination of fun and practicality. In fact, when I was in the market for a new car last year, we came dangerously close to getting a second GTI (wound up getting a TDI instead, just to try something different).

That's what I figured too; getting into the back seat in a 2-door is always a bit of a pain, I think.

I absolutely am; it's hard not to get carried away, haha.
How do you like the TDI? If I ever have a longer commute (only 15min or so now), I'd probably get one for the mileage. My landlady has owned a few, and they seem pretty awesome.

The TDI is fantastic. I have to travel a bit for work, so the mileage comes in handy. It nearly always exceeds the EPA ratings by a decent margin. It is also pretty fun to drive. Obviously not as much fun as the GTI, but the low end grunt of the diesel combined with the 6-speed is enough to make things interesting on my commute.

Awesome.
Mileage is actually surprising me in the GTI - I have definitely not been driving economically, and it's still getting high 20s to 33mpg...hopefully it'll continue to do so. Pretty great.
